ENBIS-14 in Post-Conference in Course in on in R in and in Excel25 September 2014; 09:00 – 13:00; Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria
This ENBIS-14 half-day post-conference course will be run by Erich Neuwirth (Austria).
The course is intended for statisticians who need to work with Excel even if they do not like the fact. Using the Excel Add-In RExcel allows smooth integration between Excel and R. It allows 3 different ways of process communication: Development mode: R code and data can reside in Excel, and easily be transferred in both directions or run. Deployment mode: Using VBA menu controlled customized Excel applications can be written, which shield naive users from the complexities of R, but still make the full power of R accessible. R functions can be used as Excel worksheet functions, making the autorecalculation feature of Excel usable for working with R, thereby adding an event based execution model (not available in R itself) to R. Participants will be able to judge the possible advantages of combining R and Excel and will be able to develop small scale applications on their own. Software will be downloadable from a website. Participants should bring their own laptops with the software pre-installed. Information on how to install will be sent out before the workshop.
