In the talk we illustrate methods and problems the author has considered in the last few years. The motivating case studies are gas escapes in a city network, mechanical failures in subway trains, possible introduction of new bugs during software testing and corrosion of cylinder liners in ship Diesel engines. The entertained models are nonhomogeneous Poisson processes, self-exciting processes, hidden Markov models and diffusions.
